Yoga Pants vs. Harem Pants

by Austin McIntosh on Oct 17, 2017

When it comes to workout gear, everyone has an opinion. Some insist on the latest hi-tech clothing, while others argue that an old pair of shorts and a T-shirt do the job just fine. No matter your preference, ensuring your active wear fits you well prevents skin irritation, painful chafing and allows freedom of movement is paramount. This is particularly important for activities such as yoga or Tai Chi where freedom of movement is essential. There are a myriad of styles and designs out there which can make choosing a challenge. Do you want to look good or just be comfortable? Will that expensive workout gear actually make a difference to your workout? So with this in mind, here is a little pants information for your consideration..

Yoga Pants

If you are a yoga enthusiast, you know that you need to be able to move. Yoga calls for a lot of physical movements and flexibility, and so you need clothing which allows this freedom of movement. Even if you’re not into yoga, you will have noticed that these days yoga pants are being worn just about anywhere! Sports, martial arts, dancing, Pilates, aerobics classes, worn casually at the office, when travelling, out to brunch or just to hang out! You may even be guilty of wearing them yourself, yet you've never even stepped foot inside a yoga studio! Don't worry, you're not alone. Yoga pants are comfortable, versatile and these days, stylish.

There are traditional tight-fitting yoga pants, boot-cut or flared styles and lightweight leggings in wild and bright colours. Typically, yoga pants have a flat, wide waistband and are made from comfortable, lightweight and flexible fabrics like a cotton-spandex blend or synthetic material. High-quality brands of yoga pants are designed to be breathable, wick away sweat, allow freedom of movement, feel soft on your skin and not shrink in the wash. They can be pretty expensive though. While yoga pants are made from strong and durable fabrics, just like other types of workout apparel they will lose their durability and wear out with time, so you may need to replace them, especially if they stop providing their much needed support.

Harem Pants

Sometimes known as Thai pants or bohemian pants, these pants bring stylish comfort to both your exercising and everyday life with their bright ornate patterns, lightweight, breathable fabrics and their unbelievably comfortable design. They can be worn doing just about anything. They’re lightweight enough to allow plenty of airflows to keep you cool, and are roomy enough to allow your body plenty of room to move. This makes them perfect for activities like yoga, martial arts, Pilates or dancing. Put on a pair of these pants and you’ll soon understand why they’re so popular! They feature a wide elastic waistband for all-day, everyday comfort. Most are fitted with two easy access pockets and are made from beautiful fabrics featuring bright, intricate prints.

Like yoga pants, harem pants are not limited to exercising. These pants are stylish and versatile, so adding a few pairs to your wardrobe will give you a surprising array of new outfit choices. Dress them down with flats or sandals or dress them up with heels and bold accessories, these pants look great in the yoga studio and beyond.

These surprisingly inexpensive pants are not only incredibly comfortable and stylish but have the added bonus of supporting a worthy cause. From certain retailers, like Happy Trunks, for every sale of a pair of harem pants, part of the proceeds go toward ending elephant poaching. Unfortunately, elephants still face danger and persecution from poachers for their precious ivory and from the destruction of their habitat. Partnering with Happy Trunks gives you the added bonus of contributing towards preventing the death and extinction of some of our planet's most beautiful and majestic animals. So you can look great, get healthy and feel good knowing that you are helping to protect these wonderful creatures.
